Well, I’ve gotten my new laptop, and have started re-constructing my lego minifigure. This is the finished product, I’d guess this is now the 5th generation that I’ve built from scratch. On the up-side, it’s the most accurate model of the minifigure I’ve made yet as far as scale, but that has also brought along it’s own complications. My previous minifigures, I’d purposely made the legs longer than they actually would be so that it would be easier to animate them bending at the knee, something a Lego minifigure doesn’t actually do. The legs on this one are scaled perfectly in proportion to the rest of the figure and it is definitely harder to animate it walking, but it can be done. I guess next I’ll be working on recreating my textures of the various different minifigure characters. I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to that or not :-/

A sad, sad day…
I don’t know if there’s anyone following this that was looking forward to my animated zombie film I’ve been working on for the last couple of months, but I’ve got some bad news if there was anyone. Yesterday, my laptop hard-drive took a crap on me. While in the past, I have had online back-up, I canceled that awhile back when there were unfair price increases. So, basically what I’m saying is, “I’ve lost everything that I’d been working on, or already created.”
I lost all my models, textures, reference pictures…everything! I’ve ordered a new laptop, which won’t be here fore a week or two at best, and then, I’ll have to start re-constructing everything from scratch. :-( At least I’ve learned a lesson and will be utilizing a back-up source of some kind, whether it’s online or local. I don’t know if I’m even going to ressurect the same project or start something totally new. It’s not so much the modeling work I’m thinking of as the textures that I’ll have to recreate from scratch.
The most important thing you should take from this post? Use some form of back-up for any kind of data that you don’t want to lose!

…and here’s that animation test I promised. It came out pretty good for a quick test, I’m working on some better stuff for later down the line. I’m hoping to put together a short film (4 or 5 minutes long) before the end of February, utilizing the models I’ve been posting here for the last month or so.
